Tell us about the bride Where you grew up went to school, where you work.I grew up in Clifton, New Jersey.
I grew up in Clifton, New Jersey. I went to Quinnipiac University for a year and a half before transferring home to Montclair State University for my Bachelor's degree and then my Master's Degree. I am currently a Kindergarten teacher in the Clifton school district.
Tell us about the Groom Where you grew up went to school, where you work.
He is originally from Chile. He came to the United States when he was 5 years old. He grew up in Little Falls, New Jersey and went to NJIT. He currently works in New York City as a Mechanical Engineer.
Tell us how you first met? Who what when where why? Give us the dirty Details.
We first met at TGI Fridays where Ro was a bartender at the time. I was working at UNO's Chicago Grill which was right near TGI Fridays. We would go into each other's restaurants and we started to become friendly. We then started hanging out outside our places of work and then started dating.
When did you know he/she was the one? Was there something he/she did?,etc.
I knew Ro was the one when a serious life event happened in my life. The way he calmed my nerves and made me smile through the rough times made me realize there was nobody else that could make me feel like he did.
I knew that Erin was the one when I realized that she completely accepted me for who I am and never asked for me to chage or try to change me.
Tell us about the proposal. (Did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning?, how did you feel? nervous, excited, freaking out?)
There is a whole back story to our proposal. To make a long story short, we went to the Empire State Building for our first Valentine's Day together. We took tons of pictures. On the way down, I realized my earring had fallen out. The earrings were very special to me because they were given to me by my grandmother. We were not allowed to go back up and they said we would have to call the following day. I decided we should look at the pictures, and in one of the pictures, you could actually see the earring falling out. So the following day Ro said "We are going to the city", which I thought was stupid because we would NEVER find it. Well we went anyway. We spoke to security, showed them the pictures, skipped the line and went all the way to the top. There sitting on the ledge was my earring.
Fast foward a few years... I owed Ro a birthday dinner at any place he wanted. His birthday is in April and one August day he said "Let's go out for that birthday dinner." Since it was his choice, he chose Carmine's in the city (the same place we went to eat that Valentine's day years before). We went to dinner and I got up and went to the bathrooom. When I came back, the couple sitting next to us offered us tickets to the Empire State Building because they wouldn't be able to go. Little did I know, that Ro gave them the tickets and told them to say that. We went to the Empire State Building and walked around for awhile. Before we were about to leave Ro said we should go to "our spot" (where we found the earring). I was looking out at the skyline and when I turned around he was down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
Erin - I did not see it coming to tell you the truth. I really thought we were just going out to dinner for the birthday dinner I owed him. I was beyond excited when I saw him down on one knee.
Ro - The planning took a couple of days. It was a little stressful because I was traveling so much at the time however I was not nervous at all. In fact, I was very excited to ask her to marry me.
Tell us the one thing you love most about each other.
Erin - I love how he always knows exactly what to do or say to make me feel better when I'm upset.
Ro - I love that she my best friend and that we can have fun doing almost anything together.
If you feel comfortable, share with us something silly or quirky the other person does.
Erin - He loves to scare me and when he does we both crack up laughing.
Ro - We will talk on the phone and she will ask what I'm doing. I'll say something such as "I'm on the bus", and she will turn around and say "No, I'm on the bus". We will go back and forth for a while. This always makes me laugh.
Besides getting married -What is the one thing you are looking forward to on your wedding day?
We are both looking forward to spending a great night celebrating with friends and family
What is your favorite trend for weddings right now?
I like how more and more people are doing things differently and adding their own personal touches to their weddings.
What inspired your decor or theme?
Since we are getting married in the summer, we wanted to be light colors. We wanted it to be simple and elegant.
What is one thing you wish you would have known earlier in regards to planning?
I wish I could have known how much time it takes up. One thing that really helped was being so organized. Had I not been organized, I don't think planning would have gone as well as it did. I also realized that you need to make decisions about what makes you as a couple happy, not what other people will think.
Why did you pick your Wedding Venue, What Attracted you.
We picked The Grove because of how beautiful it is. From the moment we walked in the door, we were wowed. Also, the treatment we received there from the minute we walked in the door was excellent. We felt welcomed and comfortable. We felt that our wedding day would be in great hands.
